The Cignal HD Spikers essayed a 25-10, 25-16, and 25-22 straight-set win over the Foton Tornadoes to keep their Premier Volleyball League Invitational semifinal hopes alive on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The victory allowed the HD Spikers to gain a share of second place with the Petro Gazz Angels at 2-1 and tighten up the semifinal race in Pool B play.
The HD Spikers showed their firepower early behind Frances Molina, Jovelyn Gonzaga, and Roselyn Doria’s sustained assaults before weathering the Tornadoes’ onslaught in the third to annex the 72-minute triumph.
Molina top-scored for the HD Spikers with 16 points; Molina added 14 markers, while Doria contributed 10 points in the victory.
“I’m very thankful to the Lord for guiding us for the entire game and the opportunity to train after dropping our last game. So it’s a good sign we were able to recover and win,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos.
“We really needed this win; actually, we should win all our games,” added Molina, whose squad bounced back from a four-set loss to F2 Logistics Cargo Movers two weeks ago.
Ma. Shaya Adorador was the lone double-digit scorer for the Tornadoes with 13 points as they dropped to 0-3.
