The Dominican Republic’s Eloy Vargas believes that his team can contain Gilas Pilipinas superstar guard Jordan Clarkson.
Vargas played alongside Clarkson for the Los Angeles D-fenders in the NBA G-League back in 2014.
“Me and Jordan played together in the G League for the Lakers in 2014, so we know each other a little bit,” Vargas mentioned in a press conference on Thursday, as reported by The Manila Times.
While he recognizes Clarkson’s immense talent, Vargas trusts his team to do a great job defending the Utah Jazz guard.
“Our guys will do a great job on him,” the 6’11 big man said.
Vargas, 34, is one of the Dominican Republic’s most reliable players. He posted averages of 11.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in eight games during the FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers.
The Dominican Republic will be Gilas’ first assignment in the World Cup today, Friday. (MJD)
