Creamline Cool Smashers showcased its depth despite missing several key players, defeating Nxled Chameleons, 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19, to begin its campaign in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League On Tour Showdown on Wednesday at Capital Arena in Isabela.
The Cool Smashers entered the tournament without veterans Diana Carlos, Alyssa Valdez, Bea De Leon, Jeanette Panaga, and national team setter Jia De Guzman, who is currently with Alas Pilipinas.
Despite this, the Cool Smashers produced a balanced effort to claim its first victory in the pre-season competition.
Veteran hitter Michele Gumabao-Panlilio paced the Cool Smashers with 18 points built on 16 attacks, one block, and one service ace. Lorie Lyn Bernardo also delivered a solid performance with 13 points, including 12 kills and a block.
Jessica Galanza contributed across the floor with eight points while anchoring the team’s defense with 13 excellent digs. Setter Kyle Negrito orchestrated the offense with 16 excellent sets and chipped in one point.
Creamline controlled the opening two sets before Nxled answered with a dominant third-set performance. The Cool Smashers quickly regained their composure in the fourth frame, pulling away late to seal the match.
Nxled played without reigning MVP Brooke Van Sickle, who is sidelined for the entire On Tour tournament after sustaining a slight shoulder tear.
MarJana Phillips led the Chameleons with 13 points, while Ennajie Laure-Carino added 12. Veterans Myla Pablo and Jonah Sabete-Escanillan finished with 11 points each in the losing effort.
