Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr FC have clinched a seat in the AFC Champions League group stage after an epic come-from-behind 4-2 win over Shabab Al-Ahli on Tuesday night (Wednesday, Manila time) at KSU Football Field in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Anderson Talisca fired two goals, while Sultan Al-Ghannam and Marcelo Brozović added a goal each for Al-Nassr, which stunned Shabab Al-Ahli by scoring three goals in the last nine minutes.
Al-Nassr actually drew first blood with Talisca’s 11th-minute connection, but Shabab Al-Ahli notched back-to-back hits from Yahya Al Ghassani in the 18th and 46th minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
Looking headed to defeat and elimination, Al-Nassr scored a game-tying goal in the 88th minute courtesy of Al-Ghannam’s connection from close range.
Al-Nassr then surged ahead two minutes into added time via Talisca’s second goal before they secured the victory three minutes later with Brozović’s conversion.
With the victory, Al-Nassr has qualified for the group stage of the 2023–2024 AFC Champions League and will determine their group mates during the draw on August 24 in Malaysia.
Among the teams that could be grouped with Al-Nassr are four-time champions Al-Hilal, which is to be led by Brazilian star Neymar Jr.
