San Miguel finally notched a victory, ending a five-game slump with a lopsided 111-74 win over Talk ‘N Text on Friday in the PBA on Tour preseason tournament at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
But it didn’t come without a hitch for the Beermen, as they saw Jericho Cruz get tossed out of the game for a hit against Tropang GIGA’s Paul Varilla.
Cruz, who ended up with 20 points before getting ejected, was caught hitting Varilla with a knee while battling it out for ball possession in the third period.
As a result, Cruz was assessed a flagrant foul penalty 2, which meant an immediate ejection.
Fortunately, San Miguel got a scoring boost from Marvin Lee, who finished with 22 points. Allyn Bulanadi added 20 for San Miguel’s victory.
Rodney Brondial was also impressive with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
After a close first quarter, San Miguel stifled TNT while dropping 26 points for a 55-36 halftime advantage.
The Beermen continued with the carnage in the third period and widened the gap to 41 points. The shorthanded Tropang GIGA did not recover after that.
