Dapol shines as Foton Tornadoes secure first victory in PVL Invitational

The Foton Tornadoes scored their maiden win in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational after a 18-25, 23-25, 31-29, 25-20, and 18-16 win over the Farm Fresh Foxies on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Mary Rhose Dapol shone brightest for the Tornadoes with 28 points on 25 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace as they improved to 1-3.

According to the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas star, her familiarity with the Foxies players, mostly from NCAA champions the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, played a role in her strong showing.

“Sobrang laking tulong po na ‘yung ibang St. Benilde players ay kilala ko na po ‘yung mga galawan kaya hindi na rin po mahirap kapain sa court kapag sila po ‘yung gumagalaw,” Dapol said.

“Nu’ng nandun na po sa fifth set, sabi ko po lalaban na po at bubuwis na ng buhay talaga para makamit ‘yung panalo,” added the reigning NCAA MVP awardee.

Ma. Shaya Adorador also made her presence felt with 24 points for the Tornadoes, which were decimated midway through the contest due to an injury sustained by veteran Bernadeth Flora.

Kate Santiago and Wewe Estoque had 22 markers apiece for the PVL newcomer Foxies, which bowed out of its maiden PVL tilt in 13th place with a 0-5 win-loss slate.
