The University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Lady Altas hacked out a stunning 25-16, 20-25, 28-26, 25-16, and 15-12 win over the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers in the quarterfinals of the Shakey’s Super League on Wednesday night at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Mary Rhose Dapol caught fire offensively as she tallied 33 points to carry the Lady Altas to a stunning victory over the reigning NCAA women’s volleyball champions, the Lady Blazers.
The Lady Altas and the Lady Blazers went back and forth in the fifth and deciding set, but a Charmaine Ocado kill completed the upset for Perpetual Help.
Winnie Bedana backed up Dapol offensively with 17 points, while Shaila Omipon and Ocado ended with 13 and 11, respectively.
“Masaya syempre kasi malakas ang CSB, back-to-back NCAA champion. Thank God at maganda ‘yung nilaro ng mga bata,” said Lady Altas head coach Sandy Rieta.
Zamantha Nolasco top-scored with 28 points for the Lady Blazers; Wielyn Estoque had 17 points; and Gayle Pascual chipped in 12 markers.
The Lady Altas will battle the Adamson University Lady Falcons in the semifinal round on Friday.
