RILEY Grigsby appears to have played his final game for Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Governors’ Cup but the import made it clear he would gladly return if given another opportunity.
Grigsby put together a monster performance despite Ginebra’s 97-88 loss to Meralco on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, finishing with 34 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
With Justin Brownlee’s health situation still uncertain, Grigsby acknowledged that his status with the Gin Kings remains unclear.
“Obviously we don’t know what’s going on with Justin health-wise. We’re still on call and either way, I’ll be ready,” Grigsby said.
The American import also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to suit up for Ginebra and play in front of the team’s passionate supporters.
“I’m glad Coach Tim and the Barangay Ginebra organization gave me the chance to come play out here. The fans have been great. They’ve shown me a lot of love,” he said.
Despite Ginebra’s struggles during his stint, Grigsby said he enjoyed his time in the Philippines.
And if the Gin Kings come calling again, he won’t hesitate.
“Sure, of course. Yeah, I loved it here. Whenever they want me back, I’ll be out here,” Grigsby said.
“It’s a great league. It’s competitive. So whenever they want me back, I’m ready.”
Grigsby’s future remains uncertain as he prepares to speak with his agent and assess his options following his Ginebra stint.
“I don’t know. I’ll talk to my agent and see what’s out there. I haven’t really talked to anyone about it yet. We’ll figure it out over the next couple of weeks,” he said.
For now, Grigsby leaves Ginebra with a strong individual showing in what could be his final appearance and with the door firmly open for a possible return to the Barangay. (Jesus Nathaniel Valdez)
