The De La Salle University Green Spikers launched their V-League Men’s Collegiate Challange campaign with a come-from-behind win over the University of Santo Tomas, 26-28, 25-18, 28-26, 25-21, on Friday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Team captain JM Ronquillo spearheaded the Green Spikers with 27 points on 23 attacks and four blocks, while JJ Rodriguez finished with 12 markers.
But it was prized recruit Uriel Mendoza who played a critical role in the victory as he unloaded three straight points off the bench late in the fourth set to close out the match for the Green Spikers.
“Gaya nga ng sinabi ko sa kanila kanina, kung ang tiwala na binigay sa kanila ng mga coaches, ‘Yun sana ‘yung mailabas nila,” said Green Spikers head coach Jose Roque.
Rainier Flor finished with 13 points, while GBoy De Vega added 10 markers, while UAAP Season 85 MVP Josh Ybañez also played for just two sets and finished with seven points for the Tiger Spikers.
