The De La Salle University Lady Spikers responded with a dominant 25-23, 25-12, 25-18 victory against the Adamson University Lady Falcons in Game 2 of the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals finals on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Reeling from a massive Game 1 meltdown, the reigning UAAP women’s volleyball champions rediscovered their form in the second game to extend their finale series to a winner-take-all Game 3 on Sunday afternoon.
Shevana Laput spearheaded the Lady Spikers’ offense with 18 points, Amie Provido contributed 13 points, Thea Gagate had nine, and Maicah Larroza and Alleiah Malaluan chipped in six points each.
“Actually, ‘yun naman ‘yung sinabi namin sa kanila na hindi pwedeng pupunta tayo (sa laban) na magpapatalo tayo. Kailangan manalo,” said Lady Spikers assistant coach Noel Orcullo.
“Kailangan maipakita naman sa kanila na defending champion tayo sa UAAP. Kailangan ma-prove to them na hindi namin basta-basta ibibigay ‘yung panalo sa kalaban,” he added.
Ayesha Juegos was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady Falcons with 12 points, Lucille Almonte bled for just six points, and Red Bascon was held to nine markers in the loss.
