Ahead of their showdown against Gilas Pilipinas in the 2023 FIBA World Cup on August 25 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan, the Dominican Republic showcased its offensive strength.
Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns led the Dominicans to a 94-88 victory over Canada in a friendly game on Friday night (Saturday, Manila time).
Towns, who don the Dominican jersey for the first time in a decade, tallied 20 points, on 6-of-9 shooting to go with six rebounds in their surprise win over Canada.
LJ Figueroa, who played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 NBA Summer League, also finished with 20 points, while Angel Delgado had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Dominican Republic.
Helping, however, in the Dominicans statement win is Canada opting to rest their starters for the rest of the second half.
Luguentz Dort top-scored for Canada with 13 points, Trae Bell-Haynes added 12 markers, and Dillon Brooks and RJ Barrett ended with 10 points each.
