Douanga salvages Adamson in OT against NU

Lenda Douanga emerged as hero for Adamson!

The Soaring Falcons outlasted NU Bulldogs in overtime, 84-83, to claim their first victory in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum, on Saturday September 7.

As the game went down to the wire, Dave Ildefonso broke a tie with a contested floater with 1.3 ticks left to give NU an 83-81 lead in the extra period.

But the Congo center responded with a go-ahead three pointe at the buzzer in less than a seconds left on the clock, as the Soaring Falcons escaped with an 84-83 victory.

“We don’t think it was a lucky shot. It was a design play,” Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren joked at the press.

“We needed that win. I guess we’re searching for the right combination and I think that’s the downside of having a young team and having new guys. We’re still searching for our chemistry,” said Pumaren.

Douanga also had a monster game of his own with 26 points and 19 rebounds for the Falcons, as he was also responsible for pushing the game into overtime.

Simon Camacho also tallied a double-double of 14 points and 11 boards, while Val Chauco had 11 markers on 3-of-7 shooting from the three.

Ildefonso had a great showing for the Bulldogs with a career-high 29 points and nine rebounds, while Issa Gaye scores 16 markers.
