Double OT win vs NorthPort pumps life to Meralco’s playoff bid

The Meralco Bolts need two more periods to finally escape a scrappy NorthPort Batang Pier side, 126-123, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

Baser Amer sparked an 8-0 run that pumped life to the Bolts’ quarterfinals bid in the All-Filipino tournament.

Chris Newsome topped Meralco with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists and helped the Bolts break a 3-game slump.

Amer added 23 points for the Bolts, who climbed a 6-point hole in regulation to force the first overtime.

With the win, Meralco now has 3 wins against 5 defeats while handling the Batang Pier their 4th defeat in 6 games.

NorPort was paced by Stanley Pringle’s 33-point performance. Sean Anthony, meanwhile, added 31 points and 16 rebounds.
