Central Visayas’ Naina Dominique Tagle showed her dominance in the archery competition of the 2023 Palarong Pambansa on Thursday at the STII Gold Toe Archery Center in Marikina City.
The Dumaguete City-native Tagle notched her fourth gold after topping the secondary girls 60-meter event with 327 points, beating National Capital Region’s Guillana Garcia (313) and Central Luzon’s Ivory Novesteras (312).
The gold medal in the said event was an addition to the earlier feats of Tagle in the secondary girls 50-meter (307 points), 30-meter (338 points), and 1440-round events (1278 points).
Tagle, the younger sister of Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Nicole Tagle, said she was thankful to capture her fourth gold in the week-long event despite the muddy field due to non-stop rain.
“It’s raining so very muddy and the environment affects a lot of our shots, but I feel like, as long as we have the right spirit, we’ll be fine. It bothered me, but I recovered, and then yun okay na,” said the Siliman University standout.
Tagle, however, was denied her fifth gold later in the day after placing second in the 70-meter event with 306 points, four points lower than gold medal winner Garcia. Region 5’s Denelyn Villagracia finished third with 301 points.
