Clutch KD Carries Brooklyn Past Denver
Kevin Durant came up with clutch hits down the stretch as Brooklyn Nets outdueled Denver Nuggets, 122-116, in the 2020-2021 NBA Season on Tuesday night (Wednesday in the Philippines) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
With the score tied at 113-all, Bruce Brown and Durant scored back-to-back hits to give the Nets a 117-113 edge. Following misses by the Nuggets, Durant sealed the win for Brooklyn with a three-pointer from the right wing with 27.9 seconds left.
Durant finished the match with 34 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds, Caris LeVert added 20 markers, while Brown and Joe Harris contributed 16 and 15 markers, respectively, for the Nets (6-6).
Playing sans Kyrie Irving for the fourth straight game, the Nets trailed 54-70 at the half before mounting a huge fight back in the third behind Durant and Brown to take a 90-83 edge before the Nuggets knotted the count at 90-all.
Brooklyn went on with its run in the fourth for a 104-99 lead on triples by Jeff Green, LeVert, Brown and Harris but Denver countered with a rally to force the final deadlock at 113-all.
Nikola Jokic ended with 23 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, while Will Barton and Jamal Murray added 22 and 20 markers, respectively, as the Nuggets dropped to 5-6 slate.
In other results, defending champions Los Angeles Lakers (9-3) manhandled Houston Rockets (3-6), 117-100; while San Antonio Spurs (6-5) walloped Oklahoma City Thunder (5-5), 112-102.
