Durham’s near triple-double propels Meralco past Columbian Dyip

Meralco import Allen Durham announced his presence right at the start of the PBA Governors Cup as they overcame an early onslaught by Columbian Dyip and escaped a 109-106 win, Friday evening at Ynares Sports Center, Antipolo City.

The two-time best import showcased his wares from all facets of the game as they came back from a 14-point deficit in the second canto after a 12-0 scoring blitz in the third frame.

Meralco scored a scorching 42 third quarter points, contrary to Columbian Dyip which was only limited to 23 points.

Meralco was poised to draw first blood in the Governors Cup opener with a six point lead with under four minutes left in the final stretch, 106-100, but the gritty Columbian Dyip squad won’t go down without a fight.

Led by their new coach Johnedel Cardel, Columbian successfully stringed six points to tie the game and bring the game back into contention.

But the clutch genes of Meralco guard Baser Amer proved to be the difference as he scored a layup to snatch a two-point advantage, 108-106, with 1 minute left and eventually pluck their first win.

Allen Durham filled up the stat sheet with 26 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists, while Baser Amer provided steady presence and finished the game with 23 markers, eight boards and six assists.

Columbuan Dyip import Akeem Wright was one of the few bright spots collecting 30 points and 14 rebounds, while Jerramy King continued his stellar play producing 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
