Alexandra Eala and Filipino-American doubles specialist Desirae Krawczyk will no longer compete together in the doubles event of the WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan after withdrawing from the tournament on Monday.
The reason for their withdrawal was not immediately known.
The revised tournament draw listed Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva and Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova as replacements for the Eala-Krawczyk tandem. The new pair is set to face Chinese Taipei’s Chan Hao-Ching and Japan’s Miyu Kato in the opening round.
With the withdrawal, Eala will focus solely on the singles competition in Tokyo.
The Filipina was scheduled to begin her singles campaign against British wildcard entry Mika Stojsavljevic on Monday at 4 p.m.
Eala entered the tournament seeking to regain her form following a series of early exits during the Asian swing of the WTA Tour. (Adrian Co)
