Sixth seed Alex Eala failed to advance to the semifinals after falling short against No. 3 seed Valeria Savinykh of Russia, 4-6, 2-6, on Friday in the W40 Palma del Rio in Spain.
Their quarterfinal match took place at the Asociación de Tenistas Palmeños – Polideportivo Centre Court.
Prior to her defeat to Savinykh at the W40 Palma del Rio, Eala got past Spanish wildcard Lorena Solar Donoso in the opening round, 6-3, 6-2, and Australian Talia Gibson in the second round, 6-3, 6-1.
It was her third quarterfinal appearance of the year, following her Final 8 finishes at the W25 Monastir in Tunisia and the W25 Madrid in Spain.
In the W25 Yecla tournament in the Spanish region of Murcia, Eala also reached the quarterfinals and then bagged her third ITF crown.
