The EcoOil-La Salle Green Archers tallied the most lopsided game in PBA D-League history after their 126-43 rout of the AMA Onlinr Education Titans on Thursday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Green Archers’ 83-point victory over the hapless Titans eclipsed the previous biggest winning margin of 76 points during Tanduay Rhum Masters’ 141-65 beating of Zark’s Burgers in the 2017 Foundation Cup.
Green Archers assistant coach Gian Nazario said that the record-setting victory was a huge accomplishment for them, but they are more focused on improving their game as they prepare for the UAAP wars later this year.
“Well, hindi naman namin iniisip ‘yung record. It’s good that we eclipsed it, but we just focused on getting better,” said Nazario, who called the shots in lieu of head coach Topex Robinson.
“It’s an opportunity for us to get better, and we talked about it before the game, na ‘wag naming pipiliin ‘yung kalaban namin,” he added. “Kahit ganito nangyari sa game namin sa AMA, we still think there are things we can be better at.”
Ben Phillips and Raven Cortez tallied 19 points apiece to power the defending champion Green Archers, while Bright Nwankwo, Francis Escandor, Mark Nonoy, and Aaron Buensalida had 15, 14, 13, and 11, respectively.
Significantly, the Green Archers’ fourth win in five games catapulted them into a tie for first place with the idle Marinerong Pilipino-San Beda Red Lions and bolstered their bid for an outright semifinal berth.
EcoOil-La Salle could accomplish the feat with a victory against Wangs Basketball @27 Strikers-Letran Knights, (2-2) at the close of the eliminations Thursday next week.
Earl Ceniza and Reed Baclig scored 10 each for the Titans, who ended their campaign with a 0-6 record.
