EJ Laure comes back stronger than ever, desptie UST loss

UST veteran EJ Laure was out of action for two seasons, but when she graced the court in the UAAP 82 opening week, it felt like she was only gone in a few games.

The Season 77 Rookie of the Year continued to display her mastery with a triple-double performance of team-high 20 points, on top of 20 digs and 12 reception.

Pinaghaandan ko talaga ‘to. Nag-double time ako,” she shared. “Lumabas lang kung ano pinaghirapan ko.”

However, the Golden Tigresses would collapse in five grueling sets against the NU Lady Bulldogs.

Rather than dwelling on the loss, there is a lot of silver lining that the España-based squad could lean on to — which includes the elder Laure’s leadership and veteran smarts.q

Siyempre lahat sila kinakabahan kasi first game, UAAP na. Siyempre as an ate sa kanila, hindi ko papakita na kinakabahan din ako. Mas nile-lead ko sila,” the 5-foot-9 spiker shared.

“Ngayon, para ma-realize muna ‘yung mga pagkukulang nila. Siguro, bukas na ‘ko magsasabi sa kanila and itatama kung ano nakikita kong mali.”

A opening loss does not take away the fact that the Season 81 runner-up is still a promising team this year, and Laure assures that the redemption mission continues for the team.

“We fell short, pero siyempre babangon pa rin,” she ended.
