EJ Obiena’s undergoes successful knee surgery

Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena just underwent a successful knee surgery.

On Instagram, Obiena showed a picture of his removed surgical nail, which was first inserted in 2017 when he suffered an ACL injury.

“They have cleaned the meniscus and have removed the screw on my knee from the ACL reconstruction back in 2017 as the bone graft has fully solidified,” said the Olympic pole vaulter

Obiena proceeded to thank Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez for committing to shoulder the expenses of his surgery.

“I am also thankful for Chairman Butch Ramirez announcing yesterday that funds for my surgery is available. I may be able to use this money once available to me to reimburse the advances of good samaritans,” he said.

Obiena, who currently holds the Asian record of 5.93 meters, is set to compete at the Init Indoor Meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany on January 28.

“My most immediate task is to get healthy and get back on track so that I can compete again for the country 🇵🇭,” Obiena said.
