Anthony Edwards has been a revelation for Team USA as they prepare for their FIBA World Cup campaign.
During an interview with CNN Philippines, Team USA assistant coach Erik Spoelstra spoke highly of Edwards, even comparing him to retired superstar Dwyane Wade.
“We know who that is. It’s hard to look at Anthony Edwards and not see Dwyane Wade,” the Filipino-American coach said. “And I’m not a guy for comparisons, I’m not. But the way he moves, the way he competes, the way he electrifies the crowd, yes, that reminds me of No. 3.”
Edwards emerged as the leading scorer for Team USA during their five exhibition matches for the World Cup. The Minnesota guard averaged 19.2 points on 51% field goal shooting. His best game was against Germany, where he scored 34 points.
Spoelstra added that he told Edwards about his similarities to Wade.
“I have told Anthony that,” the Miami head coach added. “I feel like I’m going back in time; it’s making me younger again, and I’m really enjoying it.” (MJD)
