Everything Goes Right for Adrian Wong against La Salle
Adrian Wong was the “Next Man Up” for the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
It also helped that the combo guard’s breakout game resulted to a 77-69 victory over arch rival La Salle on Sunday.
Wong finished the game with a season-high 18 points to help Ateneo secure another Final Four berth this Season 82.
Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin presented Wong this time as the poster boy for the Blue Eagles’ “Next Man Up” principle.
“I think if Adrian doesn’t come out hot, we’re in trouble in the first half,” Baldwin said.
“But fortunately, he did. And I think it’s another example of, you know, somebody else on our roster stepping up and, and,
you know, having a good game when it was needed.”
It took several games for Wong for him to finally regain his form right after he was struck with a knee injury in the first round.
“Coming back from injury, I had to work in the weight room and everything else on my skills because I have to start over because of my injury,” Wong shared.
Despite being proud of his performance against La Salle, Wong simply gave credit to his teammates for setting him up with right plays.
“Actually this game means a lot because of course it’s Ateneo-La Salle,” he said.
“But like we said earlier, anyone on this team, we believe in everyone on this team.”
Wong’s stellar game simply came at the perfect time for Ateneo, considering they drew a bit closer in claiming their third straight championship trophy.
“I think it’s perfect timing. Of course, Final Four is coming after the end of the eliminations. Of course, we want to win the championship and as a team, we’re gelling together even more and hopefully we run in all cylinders,” he ended.
