The University of Santo Tomas Junior Tigresses have bolstered their roster with the addition of talented player Kimberly Chelmei Ibanez Rubin, a former member of the national U-18 women’s volleyball team, who has committed to join the team.
Hailing from La Carlota City in Negros Occidental, Rubin received offers from multiple schools in Manila but ultimately chose to join the Junior Tigresses.
“I am happy and overwhelmed to be recruited by the UST Junior Tigresses. I chose UST because there is where I see myself improving and growing as a volleyball player,” Rubin expressed in an interview published in Panay News.
“I am excited to start my journey with UST, and it would be an advantage for us to train early since most of us come from different places all over the Philippines,” added the 15-year-old volleybelle.
Standing at 5-foot-7, Rubin, a former standout of Our Lady of Pilar Academy in Barangay Maao, Bago City, represented the Philippines in the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship held in Thailand last year.
As a multiple-time Most Valuable Player awardee in Negros Occidental, Rubin is determined to assist the Junior Tigresses in achieving their objectives after the school’s near miss in the recent UAAP Season 85.
“Definitely, my UST teammates can expect me to give my 101 percent. We will work hard on our drills and training and adapt myself to them. We only have one goal in mind, which is to bring the crown to España,” Rubin said.
