Fajardo skips Gilas practice but ready to go for must-win Serbia matchup
Five-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo skipped Gilas Pilipinas’ light practice because of an ankle injury on the eve of the Philippine national tea’s must-win match against Serbia in the 2019 Fiba World Cup.
But national coach Yeng Guiao was quick to ease the concerns, saying that the 6-10 big man was only nursing a ‘slight ankle sprain’ but should be ready to play in the 7:30 p.m. Monday showdown with Serbia.
The San Miguel slotman will have a daunting task of facing off with Denver Nuggets’ Nikol Jokic, a seven-foot center who in five years has established himself as one of the best big men in the NBA.
At 6-10, Fajardo, along with naturalized player Andray Blatche, Japeth Aguilar and Raymond lmaza, will be counted upon to contain Serbia’s frontcourt that has four 7-footers including 7’3 behemoth Boban Marjanovic.
