Over the weekend, the Farm Fresh-Letran Squires revisited the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in Pampanga, not for basketball but to participate in acts of charity.
The Squires assisted the Kapampangans affected by Super Typhoon Egay, specifically in Barangays San Pedro and Sto. Nino, by distributing a total of 1,750 packs of relief goods.
“Our sports teams not only aim for victory on the field, but they also embody a fundamental value: helping in times of need,” said Farm Fresh team owner Frank Lao.
“It’s about instilling in our young athletes the importance of being compassionate and making a positive impact beyond the game. Together, we cultivate a spirit of unity and service that goes hand in hand with our pursuit of excellence,” he added.
According to Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s athletic director, Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, firmly believes that charity serves as a cornerstone for their varsity teams.
“At Letran, we believe that true greatness is not solely measured by victories on the court or field, but by the compassion and charity we extend to those in need,” Calvo said. “We are reminding our student-athletes that their role transcends sports.”
“Through their dedication to service, they exemplify the Arriba spirit of Letran, where character, integrity, and community intertwine to create a legacy that extends far beyond the arena,” he added.
The Farm Fresh-Letran was set to face off against Pampanga-Pradera Theme Park in the best-of-three national finals of the Pilipinas Super League under-18 tournament on July 29.
The series opener, unfortunately, was postponed and eventually canceled after a state of calamity was declared in Pampanga due to the destruction caused by Egay. As a result, both the Milkers and the Delta were declared co-champions.
