Ferrer, Cruz savour reunion with former UST coach Jarencio

The reunion between veteran coach Pido Jarencio and his former UST wards Kevin Ferrer and Jervy Cruz at the NorthPort Batang Pier camp is off on a high note after they manhandled Blackwater, 127-99, to improve to 7-1 in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Ferrer and Cruz, alongside Sol Mercado, were shipped to NorthPort after Ginebra traded them for Stanley Pringle earlier this week.

They all made their debut on Saturday and made quick impact.

Ferrer had a team-high 23 points built on 5 three-pointers along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Cruz, for his part, supplied 16 markers, and 11 rebounds.

Both men expressed their elation over reuniting with Jarencio.

“Siyempre nakakatuwa kasi coach ko siya nung college, tapos kinuha niya ulit ako para makapag-laro sa kanya. Alam niya laro ko eh,” said Cruz, who won a UAAP championship with Jarencio in 2006 and a UAAP MVP award the following year.

“Masarap kasi na-miss ko yung pagiging player ni coach Pido,” said Ferrer, who played for Jarencio from 2011 to 2013.

“Parang tatay ko na yan,” he added.

Ferrer and Cruz, though, admitted that they were a bit shocked by how long they played in their first game with the Batang Pier as they rarely had long minutes when they were still playing for the Gin Kings.
