FEU claims another huge victory at the expense of Ateneo

The FEU Tamarraws halted Ateneo Blue Eagles’ five-game winning streak, 63-60, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, October 10.

FEU staged a 17-4 comeback in the third period after being down by 22-32 at the first half.

Both teams were going back and forth, until Hubert Cani and Richard Escoto delivered five points for the FEU, 58-63.

Angelo Kouame tried to salvage Ateneo by scoring a basket with 21.7 seconds left, but Adrian Wong was not able to bury a game-tying three.

FEU scored their third straight victory, including a back-to-back huge wins against Adamson and Ateneo, who happened to be the top two teams in Season 81.

“We had a bad start. Against Ateneo hindi puwede yun kaya hindi namin alam kung paano namin nagawa yun,” said FEU head coach Olsen Racela.

Cani was the only player for the Tams who scored double-digits, scoring 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Jasper Parker and Axel Iñigo backed up Cani with nine apiece,

FEU also managed to play without their top scorer, Arvin Tolentino, after serving his one-game suspension.

Meanwhile, Kouame posted 16 points and 12 rebounds for Ateneo, who played without Matt Nieto after sustaining an injury from his finger during the second canto.
