FEU downs UE to enter 7th straight Final Four
FEU is still the gold standard for consistency.
The Tamaraws hardly broke any sweat in their last elimination game with an 82-58 tear of UE Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Ynares Center Antipolo on Sunday October 27.
FEU outlasted a nip-and-tuck matchup against UE in the opening quarter with an 18-5 surge, 35-19.
UE showed signs of life in the third canto when Rey Suerte cut the deficit to just 11 points with 40 ticks left in the same period, 42-53.
However, FEU continued their rampage in the final frame as the lead ballooned to 24 in the final frame capped by James Tempra’s basket.
“Well, who would have thought of us making it to the Final Four?,” said FEU head coach Olsen Racela.
“Walang naniwala sa amin except sa mga nasa loob ng circle namin, and of course, the FEU community.”
FEU now clinched their seven straight Final Four appearance in UAAP, finishing the seasom with an identical record with UST at 8-6.
Fortunately, FEU owns a higher quotient over UP (8-4), UST (8-6), and La Salle (6-6) which makes them qualified for a semifinals slot.
“We’re not done yet. Our goal is to make it to the Final Four then move on from there,”
Wendell Comboy led FEU’s guard charge with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the triple on top off his four rebounds
Royce Alforque provided 13 points L-Jay Gonzales added a double-double of 12 markers and 10 rebounds.
Rey Suerte ended UE’s (3-11) campaign with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists.
