The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws relied on their tight defense to stave off the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas, 28-26, 17-25, 25-17, 25-13, in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge on Wednesday afternoon at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Chenie Tagaod, Mitzi Panangin, and Jazlyn Ellarina combined for 10 of the Lady Tamaraws’ 19 blocks in the contest as they recorded their second victory in as many matches.
Ellarina, a former National University Lady Bulldogs mainstay, was named Player of the Game as she finished with nine points, including two blocks for the Lady Tamaraws.
Tagaod also flourished in attack with 12 kills for a 16-point output to lead the way for the Lady Tamaraws, while Panangin produced eight kills for a 12-point showing.
“Na-test ‘yung team chemistry namin kasi nag-ikot kami ng mga tao. Ang maganda, may nabuo kami sa game at naging ready ‘yung mga players, kaya naging maganda laro namin,” said interim coach Manolo Refugia.
Mary Rose Dapol scored 12 points, while Tracy Andal put up an 18-excellent dig performance for the Lady Altas, who slipped to a 1-1 win-loss record.
