FEU ousts Adamson from F4 contention
FEU inches closer to their Final Four bid.
The Tamaraws still fought hard to gain a narrow 63-60 victory over the Adamson Soaring Falcons in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday October 23.
FEU dictated the tempo in the first half by gaining a 43-31 advantage at the end of second frame.
Wendell Comboy’s trey extended FEU’s lead by as much as 14 in the third period, 48-34, and it seem that they are in full control of the matchup.
However, Adamson was fighting for their dear life in the final canto by this time, even pushing the deficit by as much as three, 56-59.
Comboy hit a triple bomb to extend the lead by six, but Jerom Lastimosa and Lenda Douanga drained important baskets with 1:40 left, 62-60.
L-Jay Gonzales only splitted his charity plus an inbound violation by FEU only gave the Soaring Falcons to steal the game.
However, Lastimosa failed to convert his game-winning triple at Adamson’s final possession.
FEU now continue to bolster their Final Four campaign with a record of 7-6.
“Obviously we’re happy with the win, which was our seventh, but actually, we haven’t done anything yet,” said FEU head coach Olsen Racela.
“We have no reason really to celebrate.”
Gonzales registered 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists while Comboy also had 11 markers and seven boards.
Adamson, who dropped at 4-8, saw its playoff hopes come to an end since head coach Franz Pumaren took over the coaching job.
Jerrick Ahanmisi, Lenda Douanga, and Aaron Fermin paced Adamson with 10 points apiece.
