FEU Tams hand Adamson first loss in OT


The FEU Tamaraws tarnished Adamson Falcons’ immaculate slate in the overtime period, 88-85, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, October 7.

Down by 17 in the fourth canto, the Falcons ignited 21-4 run, capped of by Sean Manganti’s fade-away jumper to grab the lead, 75-76.

Richard Escoto scored a putback with 29.2 seconds left on the clock, but Simon Camacho answered with a putback of his own to send the game into overtime.

This time, Wendell Comboy and Hubert Cani delivered the goods for the Tams, forcing Adamson to miss all of their nine field goals in the extra period.

A costly turnover from Papi Sarr after hustling for the lose ball allowed Barkley Eboña to put up the finishing touches, which gave FEU their biggest win of the season.

“Laging itinuturo ni Coach Olsen na sarili namin ang gamutin namin since natalo nga kami sa UST and UE,” said FEU assistant coach Eric Gonazales. “Yun yung ine-emphasize ni coach Olsen, yung tatlong words – sustain sustain sustain,”

Arvin Tolentino led FEU with 19 points despite being ejected out of the game in the late quarter. Cani had 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Comboy finished with 13 markers, five boards, and three dishes.

FEU’s second-straight win allowed them to climb at the top of the standings, securing the third spot at 4-2.

Meanwhile, Jerrick Ahanmasi scored 21 points while Manganti was good with 20.

Adamson suffered their first loss of the season after enjoying their five successful outings.
