Fiba World Cup: Gilas grouped with Italy, Serbia and Angola

Gilas Pilipinas will have some fierce competition as it was grouped with European powerhouses and a perrennial AfroBasket champion in the group stage of the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

The Philippines, ranked 31st in the world, is in Group D along with 4th ranked Serbia, 13th ranked Italy, and the 39th ranked Angola.

FIBA conducted the draw took place at the Shenzhen Bay Arena in China.

Among those who attended the draw were basketball legend Kobe Bryant and China’s Yao Ming.

A total of 32 teams have qualified to play in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.

They have been distributed into 8 pots of four 4 teams each, based on the FIBA World Ranking Men.

Only the top two teams of each group will advance into the Round of 16.

Gilas will look to stage a better World Championships performance after snatching a solitary win in the 2014 edition at the expense of Senegal.
