Fil-Am Kihei Clark among rookie aspirants eligible for 2023 NBA Draft

Filipino-American guard Kihei Clark is among the talented rookies vying to be selected in the 2023 NBA Rookie Draft taking place this morning at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Clark, who traced his roots to Ilocos, became eligible even if he did not enter his name in the draft after recently graduating from US NCAA Division 1 school Virginia Cavaliers.

The 23-year-old Clark recently participated in workouts with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Atlanta Hawks, the Washington Wizards, and the Charlotte Hornets.

The 5-foot-10 guard held the distinction of being the second Filipino-American player to win a US NCAA championship since the UCLA Bruins’ Raymond Townsend in 1975.

Clark and the Cavaliers captured the US NCAA Division 1 crown in 2019 when they scored an 85-77 overtime victory against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the finals.

Clark’s collegiate career, however, ended on a sour note early this year as he committed a costly turnover that caused the No. 4 seed Cavaliers’ 68-67 loss to the No. 13 Furman Paladins.
