ALEX Santisima pulled off a massive upset in Tokyo after defeating former world champion Yukinori Oguni via 8th round stoppage on Sunday evening at the Korakuen Hall.
From the early rounds, Pinoy fighter Santisima started strong, pushing the pace and testing Oguni’s defense. Oguni answered back with hard shots, trying to take control and stop Santisima’s momentum.
The fight stayed competitive as both men traded moments, but Santisima kept finding ways to stay in the contest.
In the eighth round, Santisima delivered a powerful right hand that shook Oguni. The impact was so significant that the referee stepped in and stopped the fight, giving Santisima the win and the upset.
Santisima who trained under former boxer Michael Domingo, promised to keep working hard to improve and be ready for an even tougher fight next. (Adrian Co)
