Former Army aces Daquis, Gonzaga power Cignal
Cignal is definitely done with being at the tail end of Super Liga.
This developed after the MVP-owned team added former Super Liga Finals MVP Rachel Anne Daquis, former multiple V-League MVP winner Jovelyn Gonzaga, former NCAA MVP Royce Tubino, among others, to its roster.
Aside from adding these former national team players, Petron also tapped former Petron coach George Pascua who steered Petron to two Super Liga titles.
Joining Daquis in the lineup are talented veterans Janine Marciano, Paneng Mercado, Maica Morada and veteran setter Chie Saet.
Gonzaga played for the Army in 2013 and 2014, where they bagged the championship twice over eventual runner-up Cignal.
Daquis and Pascua, on the other hand, were part of Petron’s championship run the following year.
Last but not the least, the Cignal also injected young blood in Adamson’s Mylene Paat, former NCAA MVP Sandra de los Santos and Perpetual middle blocker Lourdes Patillano.
Given such new teammates, seasoned Cignal libero Jheck Dionela is expected to complement the squad’s firepower with her solid defense.
The HD Spikers placed a lowly sixth in both All-Filipino and Grand Prix Conferences.
