‘From Ateneo to SEA Games’ Ravena and Slaughter recall moments as teammate
Reunited and it feels so good, indeed!
A mini-reunion for NLEX’s Kiefer Ravena and Ginebra’s Greg Slaughter was inevitable the moment they were chosen to represent Gilas Pilipinas in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Ravena and Slaughter formed a one-two punch duo in Ateneo Blue Eagles, in which they won two straight UAAP championships together.
Also, the duo also had a fair share of experience back in 2011 where they also donned the Pilipinas jersey in SEA Games as well.
“You know, it’s nice to bring the nostalgia back. We had a lot of success playing together, not just in Ateneo but in 2011 SEA Games,” said “Gregzilla”.
Having the opportunity to play together again, Ravena and Slaughter wasted no time in using their familiar pick-and-roll plays in their first two games against Singapore and Vietnam.
“Unang-una, it’s nice to have a 7-footer na screener. Second, it’s also nice that we’re a little bit familiar with one another even though the last time that we played the SEA Games was eight years ago,” shared ‘The Phenom”.
The high-soaring guard was just glad to distribute the ball to Slaughter, as well as the other Gilas bigs like Junemar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar.
“It’s nice to have Greg around, as well as Junemar (Fajardo) and Japeth (Aguilar) as your bigs,” Ravena stated.
The feeling is mutual for the 7-foot Slaughter, and he hopes to take home the gold medal once again with Ravena.
“It’s nice to play with Kiefer again, and we’re looking to repeat our success.”
