From the rainbow or on the floor, Isaac Go is cash: Ateneo big man lives up to Baldwin’s lofty expectations

“You’re gonna make this three.”

Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin told 6-6 center Isaac Go before he drew up that the three-point play which saved Ateneo from the embarassment of flaming out after an almost perfect season

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Blue Eagles assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga said : “Coach Tab made a great play – one of the options of that play was for Isaac to shoot that three. Actually, before coach Tab drew (up) anything, he already told Isaac, ‘You’re gonna make this three’.”

Baldwin had other options – the brainy Nieto brothers or deadshot Anton Asistio or the clutch Thirdy Ravena – but it was the genius Go, who buried a last second three point shot in the first quarter, whom he placed his team’s entire season on.

With just 14.5 seconds, Go was in perfect form when he swished the three point shot to tie the ball game and force overtime (former Blue Eagle Arvin Tolentino fumbled what could have been his chance to immortalize himself among the Tamaraw’s clutch players).

But the Isaac Go show is not yet over as he would drop another dagger shot in overtime.

With just 30 seconds left and Eagles ahead by only three, Matt Nieto heaved a quick shot with time running out and missed. In the scramble for the loose ball, Tamaraw’s Jasper Parker pulled Go down but the second-year center coolly snatched the board and banked a shot with one knee on the floor.

Lights out for the Tamaraws and the Blue Eagles are back to the finals.

Go finished with 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting, making 3 of six three-point attempts.

The soft-spoken Go apparently hasn’t fathomed his individual awesomeness just yet as he riffed Maroons’ Paul Desiderio ‘Atin ito pare!’ swagger to describe his game winning plays.

Hey big man, you are your own highlight reel and Twitter knows:
