Galvez: PBA PH Cup resumption ‘timely’
National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF) Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. believes that it was just timely to let the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) resume its stalled 2020 Philippine Cup.
According to Galvez, he supports the PBA’s application with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to hold scrimmages and practice five-by-give games this month.
“Maganda ‘yan sa tao. So, ako, personally, considering marami kasing report on people suffering anxiety and stress, ‘yung move [is] very timely,” Galvez said in an interview with The Manila Times’ Josef Ramos.
“Kasi ‘pag PBA mania tayo, magkakaroon ng libangan ‘yung mga tao. Mada-divert ‘yung attention nila. Maganda ‘yan ‘pag buhay ang basketball. Mawawala ‘yung boredom ng tao,” he added.
Late last month, the IATF-EID has granted the holding of conditioning practices while scrimmages and 5×5 games remained prohibited.
The 2020 PBA Philippine Cup have already played a game—between defending champions San Miguel Beermen and Magnolia Hotshots—before it was halted due to President Rodrigo Duterte’s ECQ declaration.
