Gary Payton wants to pursue NBA coaching job

“I believe I now am ready to coach.”

That was NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton telling Yahoo Sports that he is interested in any coaching job in NBA, and he is really enthusiastic about it.

“A lot of young NBA players are a voice away from reaching their true potential,” Payton said. “I would like to join an NBA staff where I can help coach, mentor and guide players toward the hard work, focus and determination needed to become a reliable contributor to a team’s success.”

Known as “The Glove” because of his tenacity on the defensive end, Payton has enjoyed numerous accolades in his 17-year career in the NBA with nine-time All-Star and All-NBA First-Team selections, as well as being the first and only point guard to win a Defensive Player of the Year in 1996.

Payton was a household name in Seattle SuperSonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder), but he would claim his first and only championship ring late in his career with the Miami Heat.

“I have knowledge to share and I am ready to help,” Payton said.
