Gilas moving on from Blatche, to form pool of naturalized players
As the Gilas Pilipinas start to prepare for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is moving on from Andray Blatche and will instead form a pool of naturalized players.
SBP president Al Panlilio explained that the plan to have at least two naturalized players is for the national team to have other options.
The said pool will exclude Blatche, who led Gilas in the 2014 and 2019 FIBA World Cups.
However, Panlilio said they have yet to identify players who may be naturalized, but is aware that some former PBA imports have already volunteered their services.
In the meantime, either Stanley Pringle or Christian Standhardinger may suit up for the Philippines in the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers this February.
