Gilas preparation to take shape after official World Cup draw

Team Pilipinas’ preparation for the 2019 Fiba World Cup will take its shape after the official drawing of lots on March 16 in China.
Coach Yeng Guiao said the kind of training the national team will undergo depends on the result of the draw and the countries with which the Philippines is going to be bracketed in the Aug. 31 to Sept. 15 meet.
“I think everything in preparation for the World Cup will have to be planned or thought of after March 16,” said Guiao.
“That’s a little less than two weeks from now. After March 16, then I think we can already set up some meetings to put up a time schedule, timeline for the preparation of the national team for the World Cup.”
In a recent PBA Board meeting, the league turned down Guiao’s plan to have Gilas Pilipinas compete in the Jones Cup prior to the World Championships.
Instead, the board proposed to hold friendly games or pocket tournaments involving teams from countries which are not bracketed with the Philippines.
The Board also thumbed down having naturalized player Andray Blatche as import in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
