Gilas ran out of gas against Iran
Gilas Pilipinas’ cold-shooting contributed to their downfall against the Haddadi-less Iran, 73-81, in the fourth window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers at the Azadi Basketball Hall in Iran, on Thursday.
The Philippines fought tooth-and-nail all throughout three quarters, until Iran slowly broke away in the deciding period, including a couple of baskets made by Mohammadsahmad Nikkhahbahrami which stretched Iran’s lead by as much as 11 points.
Nikkhahbahrami led Iran with 21 points, while Sajjad Mashayekhi added provided 19.
Christian Standhardinger was the only player who scored in double-digits for the national team, tallying 30 points to go along with 12 rebounds and six steals.
Iran gave away 21 possessions over Philippines 14, but the latter still failed to capitalize on the errors committed by Iran.
The outside shooting of the national team was not in their favor, only making 5-of 28 from the three point arc.
Iran grabs the top spot in Group F with a 6-1 standing while Gilas goes down to 4-3.
