Gilas reveals name of players in 14-man pool
Gilas Pilipinas already named the 14 players who made the cut as the national team heads to Greece to start their training and preparation for the upcoming FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Who made the list?
Andray Blatche and June Mar Fajardo will banner a strong frontline while Asia’s best point guard Jayson Castro will once again team up with Terrence Romeo in the back court including LA Tenorio.
Meanwhile, Ryan Reyes made a big statement in their tune-up game against Iran earlier which made him a reliable gunner together with Rain or Shine sharp-shooter Jeff Chan.
The small forward position remained the same for Tab Baldwin as he picked his defensive stalwart Gabe Norwood and athletic hustle man Calvin Abueva.
Ranidel De Ocampo, Japeth Aguilar and Marc Pingris makes a pleasing power forward trio for the Gilas.
Two rookie and former National University stars were also selected in the line-up such as the NBA D-league cager Bobby Ray Parks Jr and Gilas Cadets main man Troy Rosario.
The 14-man pool together with the Gilas coaching staff which includes Baldwin, Nash Racela, Jong Uichico, Alex Compton to name a few will leave the country in June 10, Thursday to start their special Europe-bound training in Karpenessi, Greece.
After their “Spartan” training in Greece, Gilas will go to Turkey to play against the Ersan Ilyasova and the Turk National Team.
Then Gilas will proceed to a pocket tournament in Bologna, Italy where national teams of Italy, Canada and 2015 FIBA Gilas-slayer China will participate.
