Gilas survives Iran’s fourth quarter scare in tune-up game
Gilas Pilipinas was able to contain Iran in their fourth quarter surge with clutch contributions that pave way to a 81-70 victory in the second tune-up game held at Araneta Coliseum.
Andray Blatche who made crucial block and shot in the dying moments of the game led Gilas in double-double figures with 20 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. The big man drilled 2 of 4 three-pointers and had a 7 of 13 field goal shooting.
Forward Japeth Aguilar, guard Terrence Romeo and wing man Ryan Reyes added 12 points apiece.
Aguilar tallied his 10 of his 12 points early in the first half while Reyes went hot-handed from the arc with 4 of 5 triples.
Bobby Ray Parks Jr also provided a much needed boost for the Gilas as he delivered 11 markers, grabbed three boards and dished five assists.
Gilas led Iran with 23-point margin but the former Asia basketball champions trimmed the lead to only two points in the fourth quarter.
Blatche steered Gilas to recovery with his clutch performance with the help of Parks and high-grade defensive cager Gabe Norwood.
The players performances in the two scrimmages conducted against Iran will likely help head coach Tab Baldwin to make decisions on who will make the 14-man pool he will bring with him in their Euro-trainings.
