Gilas topples Vietnam to notch 2nd SEAG win
The dominance continues for Gilas.
Gilas Pilipinas simply gave Vietnam a 110-69 beating in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
This game proved to be an interesting matchup between Philippines’ all-PBA cagers and Vietnam’s handful of Viet-American players.
Unlike Gilas’ previous 110-58 blowout against, the first half was not exactly a walk in the park for the national team, as it took them a while before creating a double-digit separation to end the first half, 52-40.
Pilipinas then bruised a 10-0 run to begin the third canto, 62-40, and never looked back the moment Junemar Fajardo took over the game.
From then on, Gilas proved to be too much for Vietnam — despite the latter winning their first two outings in the tournament.
The 6-foot-11 Fajardo willed Team Pilipinas with 23 points and 12 rebounds in just 15 minutes of action, proving that he is the 5-time PBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
LA Tenorio and Vic Manuel had 14 points apiece, while Troy Rosario contributed 12 markers.
Meanwhile, Chris Dierker sparked Vietnam with game-high 28 points.
