GILAS Pilipinas Women booked their place in the FIBA 3×3 Under-23 World Cup after edging Chinese Taipei, 17-15, in the final stop of the FIBA 3×3 Nations League-Asia Southeast Asia Conference on Sunday in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
The Philippines entered the final stop needing a strong finish after holding only a 30-point advantage over Chinese Taipei and New Zealand in the standings.
The Filipinas delivered under pressure, finishing the competition with 510 points, exactly 30 ahead of Chinese Taipei to claim the regional qualification spot for the U23 World Cup.
The result means the Philippines will send two teams to the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup in Wuhan, China, next month, with the men’s squad having secured its own qualification earlier through the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup.
The women’s team is composed of FEU’s Amyah Espano and Victoria Pasilang, UP’s Kennan Ka and Marielle Vingno, and Adamson’s Jam Meniano.
The Philippine women squad capped their qualification campaign by holding off Chinese Taipei in the Stop 6 final, completing a run that secured their place on the world stage. (Adrian Co)
