Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas is not impressed with the lineup of Team USA for the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
In an interview with Trae Young, Arenas pointed out that some players on the World Cup-bound Team USA are not even starters on their respective NBA teams.
“You see that list [Team USA] got? A sorry-ass group. Some of them probably don’t even start on their teams,” Arenas told Young.
“It’s embarrassing when you have star players that do want to participate,” Arenas added.
Brandon Ingram, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, and Jaren Jackson Jr. are the only All-Stars on the Team USA roster. In addition, Paolo Banchero and Walker Kessler are both incoming sophomores next season.
On the other hand, the roster of Team USA in 2014 was composed of superstars such as Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Anthony Davis. Team USA won the title at the 2014 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Americans struggled in the 2019 edition of the tourney and finished seventh. The team had Donovan Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Khris Middleton, Kemba Walker, and Jayson Tatum. (MJD)
