Ginebra wallops NorthPort to even semis series at 1-1
Barangay Ginebra avenged its Game 1 loss against NorthPort, drubbing the Batang Pier, 113-88, in Game 2 of their semifinal series in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, Monday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Ginebra outscored Northport 31-18 in the first frame, with Scottie Thompson’s three-pointer fueling a 13-2 run that allowed the Gin Kings to gain separation.
The Kings never looked back from there, leading by as much 33 halfway through the third period after Aljon Mariano made it 85-52.
Stanley Pringle led Ginebra with 23 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting clip, along with 5 assists. LA Tenorio had 20 points, while Greg Slaughter produced 16 points and 9 rebounds.
Justin Brownlee had a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards.
Import Michael Qualls was limited to 20 points on 8-of-26 shooting for the Batang Pier. Sean Anthony put up 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Christian Standhardinger had just 10 points and six boards.
The series is now tied at one game apiece, with Game 3 set for Wednesday, December 18 at the Big Dome.
