Gjerard Willson will no longer play for the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers as he opted to commit to the University of the East Red Warriors.
According to a report by Rappler’s Naveen Ganglani, the Filipino-American guard chose to go to the Red Warriors because he believes in the system of head coach Jack Santiago.
The Lemoyne Owens-College standout has reportedly been practicing with the Red Warriors for several days now and will start to appear in tune-up games soon. He will still have two years of UAAP eligibility.
After initially committing to the Growling Tigers last March and attending several UST practices, Willson returned to the United States before ultimately changing his decision.
In his final year with NCAA Division 2 school Lemoyne Owens, Willson averaged 12.2 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists and had 48 percent field goal accuracy.
Willson is the second recruit of returning UST head coach Pido Jarencio, who chose to decommit aside from Filipino-Canadian winger Gabriel Obusan. (AC)
